Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on a weight of evidence approach phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is predicted to be readily biodegradable.

Additional information

The biodegradability of phenylparaben is evaluated by one key study and two QSAR estimations. A scientific study with limited documentation and two QSAR predictions are available. Within the study benzyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is evaluated as moderately persistant with a half-life of 10 to 19 hours in river water and teken into acount as read-across source.

Both QSAR predictions (VEGA and BIOWIN4.10) predict the substance as readily biodegradable and therefore phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is classified to be readily biodegradable.
