Conclusion on classification

The toxicity to the aquatic environment of Reaction mass of morpholine and 6-[(p-tosyl)amino]hexanoic acid, compound with morpholine (1:1) was investigated by performing GLP-compliant short-term toxicity studies to algae, fish and aquatic invertebrates. Studies were performed on marine species.

Algae (Skeletonema costatum) was identified as the most sensitive species based on the outcome of the investigation with a 72h EC50 of 15 mg/L. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50 for Reaction mass of morpholine and 6-[(p-tosyl)amino]hexanoic acid, compound with morpholine (1:1) is above 1 mg/L, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as Aquatic Acute 1; H400 in accordance with Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008.

There is no available data on the chronic toxicity of Reaction mass of morpholine and 6-[(p-tosyl)amino]hexanoic acid, compound with morpholine (1:1) to the aquatic environment. As the substance is being registered under REACH in the 10-100 tonnage band there is no requirement for information on long-term studies to aquatic species. Therefore the classification of the registered substance for chronic effects is based on the short-term toxicity of Reaction mass of morpholine and 6-[(p-tosyl)amino]hexanoic acid, compound with morpholine (1:1) to the aquatic environment and its ready biodegradability. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50 for Reaction mass of morpholine and 6-[(p-tosyl)amino]hexanoic acid, compound with morpholine (1:1) is between 10 and 100 mg/L, and the substance cannot be considered as rapidly biodegradable according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008, it meets the criteria for classification as Aquatic Chronic 3; H412 in accordance with Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008.
