Description of key information

Based on the solubility of magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate in water (107.4 g/L at 20 °C), a complete dissociation of magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate may be assumed. Upon dissolution, magnesium and 2-ethylhexanoate ions therefore determine the environmental fate of magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate. Magnesium is highly mobile under all environmental conditions and occurs in solution as dissociated Mg2+ ions. A European median log Kp value of 2.96 is derived for sediment-water partitioning, and magnesium is expected to be highly mobile in suspended matter and soil. For 2-ethylhexanoate, significant adsorption to the solid soil phase is not expected based on available data collected according to OECD106 guideline. Therefore, magnesium 2-ethylhexanoate may be assumed to be mobile under environmental conditions.
