Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance 4 -amino-m-cresol has a high water solubility (2 g/L at 25°C), a low vapor pressure < 0.0025 Pa at 20°C) and a low log Koc (0.51 at 22°C). So the substance will be found mainly in the aquatic compartment.

Due to its low log Kow, the 4 -amino-m-cresol is not suspected of bioaccumulation.

This substance is not readily biodegradable in a ready biodegradation test.

The 4-amino-m-cresol is unstable under the conditions of the hydrolysis test at elevated temperature and whatever the pH (4, 7 and 9). A half-life of 2.04 hours was obtained at 50°C and pH 7. The half-life at environmental pH and 12°C is calculated to be 1.78 days.

However due to the lack of hydrolysis functions, the observed degradation cannot be related to hydrolysis and it is probably due to another mechanism (e.g., oxidation or thermal stability).
