Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water), log Pow, of 4-Amino-m-cresol was 0.49, 0.58 and 0.47 in 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1 ratios of octanol/water solutions respectively. The mean partition coefficient, log Pow was 0.51, measured by the Shake flask method (OECD 107).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):

Additional information

The Partition Coefficient of4-Amino-m-cresol was determined by following the OECD 107 guideline (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water)-Shake Flask method.

400 mL of n-octanol solution, saturated with water and containing 400 mg of test material (1 mg/mL) was prepared, and three tests using different ratios of n-octanol/water (1:1, 1:2 and 2:1) were performed. The tests were run in duplicate, for each ratio of n-octanol/water.

Test vessels were shaken for 2 hours on a mechanical shaker, and then the two phases were separated and treated for analysis. The concentrations of the test substance in both phases were analyzed via HPLC with FID-detection. All the procedure was conducted at room temperature (22°C) and the pH value of the water fractions was near to neutrality.

The Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water), log Pow, of4-Amino-m-cresol was as follows:

 Octanol/water (1:1): 0.49 (mean value of replicates)

Octanol/water (1:2): 0.58 (mean value of replicates)

Octanol/water (2:1): 0.47 (mean value of replicates)

The mean partition coefficient, (n-octanol/water), log Pow was 0.51.
