Short-term to fish
In a static short term toxicity to fish test the 96-hour LC50 of the test substance phenylethyl propionate for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was determined to be nominal in a range between 10 and 13 mg/L.
Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
In a static immobilization test, young Daphnia magna (< 24 h old) were exposed to the test item for 48 days according to the OECD guideline 202 (1984). The 48h- EC50 was determined to be nominal 22 mg/L.
Toxicity to alga and cyanobacteria
The toxicity of the test substance to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 (2011) and Council Regulation (EC) No 761/2009 C.3 at the test facility. After 72 hours the NOEC was determined to be 1.64 mg/L, the ErC10 was determined to be 4.86 mg/L and the ErC50 was determined to be 8.33 mg/L (gemoetric measured concentrations).
Toxicity to microorganisms
According to the ECHA Guidance document R7b, no further test on the toxicity to microorganisms has to be conducted if the toxicity control in a ready biodegradability test shows no inhibitory effects on microorganisms. As the toxicity control in the Closed Bottle ready biodegradability test showed no inhibition of the microbial activity at a substance concentration of 1.5 mg/L, no further test is necessary to evaluate the respiration inhibition of activated sludge. The concentration used in the toxicity control (1.5 mg/L) will be used as NOEC value.
