Description of key information

Appearance:

In an experiment conducted by SSS(Europe)AB,on the basis of physical observation, p,p’,p’’-tris(diethyl amino)trityl alcohol was Violet colour powder in appearance.

Melting point:

In an experiment condcuted by SSS(Europe)AB,the melting point determination of chemical p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The melting range was determined to be 179.8 °C – 185.3 °C.

Boiling point:

In an experiment conducted by SSS(Europe)AB,the boiling point determination of p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6)was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test item melted in the range of 179.8°C -185.3 °C and stick to walls of test tube in the form of paste. The heating was continued till 260°C but no bubbles emerged from the capillary. The test was conducted in replicates and mean boiling point was determined to be greater than 260°C.

Density:

In an experiment conducted by SSS(Europr)AB,the density of chemical p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol(CAS no. 596-49-6)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the method adapted from ASTM 854-02using glass pyknometer. The density of the test item was determined to be 1.019 g/cm3at 200C.

Particle Size Distribution:

The particle size distribution of test item p, p’,p’’-tris(diethyl amino)trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 micron.

Vapour Pressure:

Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure ofBenzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl - using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapor pressure ofBenzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl -at 25°C was1.36E-012 Pa.

It is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment due to the limitation in the field.

Partition Coefficient:

KOWWIN v1.68 was used to estimate the octanol water partition coefficient of the test chemical. The estimated log Pow of theBenzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl -was 7.86

Based on the value, it can be considered that Benzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl - is hydrophobic in nature, which also supported by its very low solubility in water.

Water Solubility:

The water solubility determination of test item p,p',p''-tris(diethylamino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and OECD 101 for spectrophotometric determination.

The water solubility determination of test item p,p',p''-tris (diethylamino) trityl alcohol;CAS No.596-49-6 was done by spectrophotometric method. The water solubility was determined to be 0.00425 mg/L at 28°C.

This value suggests tha p,p',p" -tris(diethylamino) tritylalcohol is insoluble in water.

WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility ofBenzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl .

The estimated water solubility of Benzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl -was determined as 0.0002046 mg/l at 25 deg C. This value suggests that Benzenemethanol, 4-(diethylamino)- alpha, alpha -bis 4-(diethylamino)phenyl - is highly insoluble in water.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, If the water solubility is below 1mg/l at 20°C the test does not need to be conducted. For the target p,p’,p’’-tris(diethyl amino)trityl alcohol water solubility was estimated to be 0.00002046 mg/l. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The flash point determination ofp, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6)was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 224.60C at 979.3 hPa.Based on the result, p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was considered to be not flammable as per the CLP regulations.

pH:

The pH determination of test item p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino)trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was done following OECD guideline 122 pH of 1% w/v aqueous solution was measured with the help of pH meter/probe and it was observed to be 7.65 at 24.9 °C. Based on the experimental result , p, p’, p’’-tris (diethyl amino) trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) was considered to be neutral in nature.

Viscosity:

In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids. p,p’,p’’-tris(diethyl amino)trityl alcohol (CAS No. 596-49-6) is a Violet colored powder.Hence this study can be considered for waiver.
