Conclusion on classification

Environmental classification and labelling of a substance is generally based on data from short-term aquatic toxicity results, the ready biodegradability of the substance and an experimentally determined BCF (or if absent the measured octanol/water partition coefficient). Available adequate chronic toxicity data is also relevant for the assessment of long-term aquatic hazards (Regulation 286/2011/EC).

 

Short-term aquatic toxicity data is available for all three trophic levels (daphnia, algae and fish). The fish 96-hour LC50 was experimental determined for the registered substance and found to be 4.3mg/L. The daphnia and algae endpoints have been filled using read-across. Correcting for slight differences in the log Kow of the source and target substance, EC50 values were estimated to be 19 mg/L (48h daphnia) and 13 mgL (72h algal growth rate). Since all EC/LC50 values are > 1mg/L the substance is not classified for short-term hazards to the aquatic environment according to the CLP Regulation 1272/2008/EC.

 

The long-term hazard has been assessed based on the lowest EC/LC50 value (4.3mg/L, fish) and environmental fate data (not readily biodegradable and log Kow of 2.7), which results in an Aquatic Chronic 2 (H411) classification according to the CLP Regulation 1272/2008/EC & adaptation 286/2011/EC.
