Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Releases of FC-72 for all proposed uses are to the atmosphere. The substance is of very low water solubility, is volatile, and has a high experimental Henry's Law constant. Based on these qualities, it is expected to remain in the atmospheric compartment upon release. No reliable biodegradation studies were conducted with this substance. A category member (FC-770) tested in an OECD Guideline 310 study was found to be not readily biodegradable. None of the other category members tested showed signs of biodegradation in reliable closed bottle tests. Based on these test results and the fact that this molecule belongs to a category of chemicals which are not reactive toward biological molecules and cannot undergo bioactivation by normal enzymatic processes, biodegradation of FC-72 is not expected.

Please see IUCLID section 13 for the category justification and a matrix of biodegradation data for members of the Perfluorinated Organic Chemicals C5-C18 category.
