Description of key information

The boiling point of FC-72 is 56.9 °C at 760 mm Hg (ASTM E1719-97 and ASTM D1120-94).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the key study, the boiling point of FC-72 was extrapolated from the measured vapor pressures and temperatures for the compound. The study was conducted under method ASTM E1719-97 and ASTM D1120-94. The study was not conducted in accord with GLP guidelines; therefore, the study is classified as acceptable with restrictions. In a study of two purified chemical isomers of the FC-72 mixture, a boiling point of 57.23 °C was reported for perfluoro-n-hexane and a boiling point of 57.74 °C was reported for perfluoro-2-methylpentane. The publication did not specify whether a guideline was followed and the study was not conducted in accord with GLP guidelines; therefore the reliability of these results could not be assessed. A third value for boiling point of 56 °C at 1 atm was found in a summary document on substance properties. However, due to few details available, it cannot be classified as to its reliability. The key study is the preferred value due to being in accordance with a guideline and having more details available than the supporting studies.
