Additional information

Experimental data on the toxicity of 1,2,3-propanetriyl triisooctadecanoate (CAS 26942-95-0) to soil macroorganisms are not available. However, based on the ecotoxicological profile toxicity of the substance to terrestrial organisms is considered to be unlikely.

Since no studies investigating the toxicity of 1,2,3-propanetriyl triisooctadecanoate (CAS 26942-95-0) to soil macroorganisms are available for this endpoint, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read across to the structurally related souece substance Glycerides, C14-18 and C16-18 unsaturated, mono-, di- and tri- (CAS 91052-28-7) was conducted. The target substance 1,2,3-propanetriyl triisooctadecanoate (CAS 26942-95-0) is characterized as a triester of Glycerol and C18 iso fatty acids whereas the source substance Glycerides, C14-18 and C16-18 unsaturated, mono-, di- and tri- (CAS 91052-28-7) is a UVCB substance of Glycerol triesterified with mainly C18:1 fatty acids (minor content of C14-18 saturated and C16 unsaturated fatty acids esterified with Glycerol).

This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID chapter 6.3) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance was used for the assessment. Nevertheless, as it can be seen in the data matrix of the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13, all reliable data support the hazard assessment showing a consistent pattern of results.

The available study with the read-across substance Glycerides, C14-18 and C16-18 unsaturated, mono-, di- and tri- (CAS 91052-28-7) was performed according to OECD 207 (Moser, 2012). Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance for 14 days at a concentration of 1000 mg/kg dw (limit test). Due to the poor solubility of the substance in water, test solutions were prepared using a solvent. No effects on survival or biomass during the exposure period were reported, leading to a NOEC (14 d) ≥ 1000 mg/kg dw. Based on this result from a structurally related source substance (in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile, short-term effects of 1,2,3-propanetriyl triisooctadecanoate (CAS 26942-95-0) to soil macroorganisms is not expected.
