Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
27 May 2010-15 July 2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
This study has been performed according to EC/ISO guidelines and according to GLP principles. Test substance is adequately characterised. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
Version / remarks:
2002
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
ISO No., other: United Nations (UN), UN no. ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.4: Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Part III: Classification Procedures.......Relating to Explosives of Class 3, Class 4, Division 5.1 and Class 9, Paragraph 32.4.1, 2003
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
ISO No., other: ASTM International, ASTM D 93: “Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester”, December 10, 2002.
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. certificate)
Type of method:
closed cup
Remarks on result:
no flash point - measurement carried out until boiling temperature

It was visually observed that the test substance has a boiling temperature of approximately 110°C. No flammable vapour/air mixture was produced at temperatures below the boiling temperature of the test substance.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
GHS and EU-CLP criteria not met
Conclusions:
As no flash point was observed, the substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) criteria.
Executive summary:

The flash point of aluminium chloride basic (as aqueous solution) was investigated according to EC/ISO guidelines, closed cup method. No flash point was recorded up to the observed boiling temperature of ca 110°C.

Description of key information

No flash point was recorded up to the observed boiling temperature of ca 110°C of the test substance (aqueous solution as manufactured).

The substance is NOT classified as flammable liquid according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) criteria.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized ISO/EC method and under GLP, is available. It is therefore considered as a key study. As no flash point was observed up to boiling, no key data can be retained for purpose of CSA.

As an UVCB, it should be noted that the value of the parameter may show some variations.

This result is relevant for the classification regarding flammable properties.
