Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

1.Persistence assessment:

Based on experimental data, Disperse Red 86:1 can be concluded to be not-biodegradable and stable in the environment. Hence it can be assumed to be fulfil the persistence criteria.

2.Bioaccumulation assessment:

According to the screening criteria for bioaccumulation (B for bioaccumulative, vB for very bioaccumulative) given in the technical guidance provided by ECHA (ECHA 2008, Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11), a substance does not fulfil the B and the vB criterion if its log Kow ≤ 4.5. The octanol-water partition coefficient for Disperse Red 86:1 was 2.31 (log Kow). This value is much below the threshold value of log Kow ≤ 4.5. Hence, he substance is regarded as not bioaccumulative neither fulfilling the B nor the vB criterion.

3. Toxicity assessment:

No long term aquatic toxicity data is available, however Disperse Red 86:1 was tested with aquatic species of all three trophic levels and LC50 values were >100 mg/L in all these studies. Further Disperse Red 86:1 was not classified as CMR. Therefore, based on current knowledge, the substance does not fulfil the T criterion based on the PBT criteria according to Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation.

Based on the above discussion, it is evident that Disperse Red 86:1 should not be regarded as PBT or vPvB.
