Three key studies are available for short-term aquatic toxicity for three trophic levels. In addition, two key studies for chronic aquatic toxicity are also available for aquatic invertebrates and algae.

 

Short-term toxicity to fish:

- LC50 (96h) = 74.8 mg/L (OECD Guideline 203) (reliability Klimisch 1a)

Based on the results of this study, n-heptanoic acid is considered as harmful to fish.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

- EC50 (48h) = 72 mg/L (OECD Guideline 202) (reliability Klimisch 1a).

Based on the results of this study, heptanoic acid is considered as harmful to daphnia.

Short-term toxicity to algae:

- EC50 (72h) = 61.2 mg/L (OECD Guideline 201) (reliability Klimisch 1a).

Based on the results of this study, heptanoic acid is considered as harmful to algae.

Long term toxicity to invertebrates

- NOEC = 20 mg/L (OECD 211 guidelines) (reliability Klimisch 1a)

Long term toxicity to algae

- NOEC = 46 mg/L (OECD Guideline 201) (reliability Klimisch 1a).
