Description of key information

The long-term toxicity of heptanoic acid to earthworm was investigated through an OECD 222 GLP study. There were no significant effect on adult mortality or weight gain compared to the control after 28 days. There was a significant decrease of earthworm production after 56 days at the highest concentration tested (32 mg/kg soil dw). The NOEC considered for this study is 10 mg/kg soil dw.

The long-term toxicity of heptanoic acid to earthworm was investigated through an OECD 222 GLP study. The tested concentration were 0 ; 0.32 ; 1 ; 3.2 ; 10 ; 32 mg/kg soil dw. The control was performed in octoplicate while the other treatments were applied in quadruplicate. Ten adults of Eisenia fetida were put in each replicate. After 28 days, adult mortality and adult weight gain were checked and adults were removed. After 56 days exposure, the living juveniles were counted. Mortality, weight gain and juvenile production were analysed with Toxrat 2.1. There were no significant effect on adult mortality or weight gain compared to the control after 28 days. There was a significant decrease of earthworm juvenile production after 56 days at the highest concentration tested (32 mg/kg soil dw). The NOEC considered for this study is 10 mg/kg soil dw.
