The observation and results obtained at each equilibrium measurements are reported in the table below:

Temperature set (°C) Corrected temperature (°C) Test result Comments
Positive  Negative
112 112.7   X No Flash - detected by equipment
122 122.7 X   Flash - detected by equipment
116 116.7 No Flash
118 118.7 X   Flash - detected by equipment
117 117.7 X   Flash - detected by equipment
116.5 117.2  X Flash - detected by equipment
116 116.7  X flash
Flash point = 116.5°C for set point – 117°C correct ed rounded to closest lower value flash point

The corrected flash point is obtained as followed:

Flash point observed (ISO 3679) (measured) Pressure effect correction Atmospheric pressure the day of determination
(24/08/2009)
Corrected flash point, value at the nearest 0.5°C

Conclusions:
The flash of n-heptanoic acid corrected at the pressure of 101.3 kPa, was 117°C ± 0.5°C.
Executive summary:

The flash point of n-heptanoic acid was determinated according to according to Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 , part A.9 following the closed cup method ( ISO 3679).

The observation between 112 and 122°C, obtained at each equilibrium measurements, are reported at 988 mbars. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which the sample produces vapour in a closed container (closed cup) in such amounts that a flammable vapour/air mixture is formed.

The flash of n-heptanoic acid corrected at the pressure of 101.3 kPa, was 117°C ± 0.5°C.

Description of key information

117°C at 101,3 kPa

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
117 °C

Additional information

An experimental study compliant with the Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 , part A.9 (closed cup method - ISO 3679),

selected as the Key Study, showed that the flash point of n-heptanoic acid was 117°C at 101.3 kPa.
