Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Test item: Zincum SW/F
- Physical state: whitely powder
- Water solubility: 0.3 - 1.8 mg/L (depending on test conditions)
- Storage conditions: Room temperature, protected from moisture and light
Surface tension:
64.56 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
90 other: % saturated aqueous solution
Remarks on result:
other: standard deviation: 0.05 mN/m

Due to the fact that the surface tension is > 60 mN/m, Zincum SW/F is classified not surface-active.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 90 % saturated aqueous solution of ZINCUM SW/F was 64.56 mN/m (standard deviation 0.05 mN/m). Due to the fact that the surface tension is > 60 mN/m, Zincum SW/F is classified as not surface-active substance.
Endpoint:

Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because based on structure, surface activity is not expected or cannot be predicted

The test item has a mean surface tension of 66.87 mN/m. Thus, the test item is not to be regarded as surface active according to regulation EC No. 440/2008 Part A Method A.5.

Conclusions:
According to OECD Test Guideline 115 (1995) and Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Part A Method A.5. the surface tension at 20 °C of test item zinc ditetradecanoate was determined to be: σ = 66.87 mN/m. Therefore, the test item is not to be regarded as surface active material.

Description of key information

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.6, column 2, the study need only be conducted if, based on structure, surface activity is expected or can be predicted. However, studies with Fatty acids, C16-18, zinc salts and Zinc ditetradecanoate (C14) were performed according to OECD 115 (see supporting robust study summaries section 4.10) resulting in no surface-active properties, i.e., 64.56 mN/m at 20 °C and 66.87 mN/m at 20 °C, respectively. A similar behaviour is assumed for "Fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd., zinc salts". Therefore, a test does not need to be conducted.
