Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

- EC50 (15 min) value for Photobacterium phosphoreum ca. 2200 mg/l (Microtox manual (Microbics corp. 1991))
- EC50 (15 min) value for Vibrio fisheri ca. 41480 mg/l (ISO 11348-3:1998 (E))

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
2 200 mg/L

Additional information

The two supporting studies (Grahn & Grotell 2004 and Broch-Due & al. 1994) showed rather low toxicity to bacteria. EC50 value for P. phosphoreum was ca. 2200 mg/l and for V. fisheri 41480 mg/l.

Because of the low number of SCP liquor studies, some SCP effluent studies were referred as Weight of evidence status although the tested samples were not completely consistent with SCP liquor. The EC50 values of the SCP effluents were ca. 1700 mag/l and ca. 28490 mg/l, which did not conflict with the other results.

Concerning all studies based on light emission there is a risk of interference (false positive) due to strong colour of the test substances. None of the studies reported any corrective measures.
