- Only the nominal concentration of 1000 mg test article/L and a control was tested, because concentrations exceeding 1 g/L should not be tested according to the OECD Guideline No. 202 and in a range-finding test (not reported) with the nominal concentrations 1, 5, 25, 125 and 625 mg test article/L, the immobility rate of 20 daphnids per concentration was only 5 % or lower. The NOEC (highest concentration tested without toxic effect) of FAT 40400/A after 48 hours test duration is 1000 mg/L or higher. Therefore, the 48 h EC 50 could not be specified. In the control as well as test substance group no immobility or mortality was observed. The acute toxicity to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48-hour static test according to the OECD Guideline 202 and EU method C 2, and to the Guideline of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Pesticide Assessment Guidelines, Subdivision E, EPA-540/9-85-005, June, 1985. The test was performed in compliance with the Good Laboratory Practice Regulations. Only the nominal concentration of 1000 mg testsubstance/L and a control was tested, because concentrations exceeding 1000 mg/L should not be tested according to the OECD Guideline No. 202. After 48 hours test duration no no immobility or mortality was observed. The reported result is related to the nominal concentration of the test article. During test duration the mean test article concentration was 142 % of the nominal value, the 48-h NOEC of FAT 40400/A is determined at >1000 mg/L, therefore, the 48 h EC50 could not be specified. So, under test conditions the test article was sufficiently stable.

Analytical results
The detection wave length of 420 nm was obtained by measuring the absorbance of FAT 40400/A in the wave length range from 280 to 700 nm in steps of 1.0 nm. The mean concentrations in g/1 and Z were calculated on the basis using the rounded results of the concentration in g/l. The spectrometer was adjusted to zero against water for standards and samples.
Description of key information
The acute toxicity of the test substance to aquatic invertebrates was determined in a GLP-compliant test according to OECD 202. In this study, Daphnia magna (4 replicates of 5 daphnids each) were exposed to a nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L of the test substance for 48 hours (static) and a control. Analytically determined test item concentrations in the test medium ranged from 138 % at the start (hour-0) of the test to 145 % of nominal at the end (48 hours) of the test. No effect on mobility of Daphnia was noted throughout the test. Therefore, the 48-h NOEC value was determined at >1000 mg/L. Therefore, the 48 h EC50 could not be specified.
