RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
The substance under consideration Condensation products of m-phenylenebis(methylamine) with condensation products of 4-methyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate with alcohols, C10-14 (even numbered) is never used in its pure form. It is synthesized in-situ, i.e. dissolved in a solvent, and formulated into an additive for lacquers, paints and other coatings systems. The final concentration of the substance in these additives is 20 - 25 % (w/w), hence the substance is highly diluted. It is important to note that neither the substance on its own nor the additives formulated by the registrant will be used in any spray application. Hence, no special respiratory protection is needed - especially when the physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties of the substance are taken into account - when using the substance on its own or in the additives formulated by the registrant.
In case of spray applications (PROC7 and PROC11) of formulated lacquers, paints and other coatings systems, appropropriate respiratory protection is highly recommended. Since Condensation products of m-phenylenebis(methylamine) with condensation products of 4-methyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate with alcohols, C10-14 (even numbered) is used in a typical concentration of 0.1 - 0.5 % (w/w) in the formulated mixture, the main hazard of the formulated lacquers, paints and coatings systems is determined by solvents and other ingredients of those mixtures and NOT by Condensation products of m-phenylenebis(methylamine) with condensation products of 4-methyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate with alcohols, C10-14 (even numbered).
As a consequence, no clear recommendation as to the optimum respiratory protection for individual spray applications - both in industrial (PROC7) as well as in non-industrial (PROC11) settings - for formulated lacquers, paints and other coatings systems can be given here. The appropriate respiratory protection is determined solely by the formulated lacquers, paints and coatings systems that are sprayed.
SKIN AND EYE PROTECTION
The situation described above holds true in exact the same way for skin and eye protection as well as for other exposure control measures, e.g. ventilation.
Stability and reactivity
Danger other than fire: Not known.
Chemical reaction with water: None
Dust explosion: Not to be expected
Dust explosion determined by test: N
