Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate does not have a distinct melting point. A melting range of -68.5°C to -66°C was determined.
The melting point for 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, the main degradation product of bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate is reported to be at -70 °C.
The degradation product is decisive in the environmental risk assessment as the parent substance hydrolyses rapidly (t½ < 1 h at 5 °C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-70 °C

Additional information

The melting point of bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate was determined according the OECD guideline 102 resp. EU A.1. The determination was performed in duplicate. In both determinations, a melting range was detected. The melting range was determined as: -68.5 to -66.0 °C (204.8 to 207.2 K). These values are the means of two independent determinations.

The CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics cites the melting point for 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, the main degradation product of bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate to be -70 °C.

The degradation product is decisive in the environmental risk assessment as the parent substance hydrolyses rapidly (t½ < 1 h at 5 °C).
