Abiotic degradation is not a relevant pathway in the environmental fate of 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)]bisethyl diacetate (CAS 111-21-7). Since the substance is not likely to be present in the atmosphere, indirect photodegradation in air is not to be expected. Hydrolysis is not relevant, since the substance is readily biodegradable and is expected to be eliminated through biodegradation in natural waters. A base-catalysed second-order hydrolysis rate constant of 0.491 L/(mol-sec) was estimated using a structure estimation method.

This corresponds to half-lives of 163.4 days at pH 7 and 16.3 days at pH 8.
