Description of key information

Inhibition of microorganisms activity is unlikely to occur when exposed to 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A study investigating the effect of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters (CAS 90193-76-3) to activated sludge microorganisms is available. The test was conducted according to OECD Guideline no. 209 (1984): “Activated sludge, Respiration Inhibition test”, under GLP conditions. After 3 hours of exposure to the test substance, no effects on respiration rate were observed. The EC50 was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L (nominal concentration). Furthermore, the results from the ready biodegradability study showed that this substance is not inhibitory to activated sludge microorganisms (40% biodegradation after 14 days in toxicity control). Therefore, disturbances in the biodegradation process of a sewage treatment plant due to exposure to 1,2 -Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters are not anticipated.
