Additional information

Based on all the in vitro data available there is no need to perform in vivo testing.

Short description of key information:

Several in vitro tests are available. L-Lysine HCL was not mutagenic in four Ames tests performed according to OECD 471 with and without metabolic activation. A chromosomal aberration test according to OECD 473 showed lysine HCl to be not clastogenic. L-Lysine HCl was not clastogenic or aneugenic in an in vitro micronucleus test performed according to OECD 487 (draft). L-Lysine HCl was not mutagenic at the Tk-locus of mouse lymphoma L5178Y cells in two tests performed according to OECD 476.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the in vitro data available, L-lysine HCl does not have to be classified (DSD and CLP).
