First-aid measures

Inhalation : In case of breathing trouble, immediately relocate to a fresh air environment. Rinse mouth with water. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing becomes difficult give oxygen and seek medical attention.

Eye contact : Flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Ensure adequate flushing by separating eyelids with fingers. If contact lenses are worn, remove lenses and continue rinsing. Seek medical attention.

Skin contact : In case of exposure, wash with soap and copious amounts of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Ingestion : Rinse mouth with water. If any trouble appears, seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing Method : Water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder/foam

Fire and explosion hazards : Avoid electric and electrostatic sparks

Protective measures : Wear protective clothing and breathing mask to protect from fumes

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

Respiratory : It is recommended to wear a (paper) mask covering nose and mouth.

Hands : It is recommended to wear gloves, especially in case of extended contact (although ‘L-Lysine-monohydrochloride, technically pure’ is not considered as irritant/corrosive for skin.

Eyes : It is recommended to wear safety goggles (although ‘L-Lysine-monohydrochloride, technically pure’ is not considered to be irritant/corrosive for the eye.

Skin: It is recommended to wear protective clothes covering skin. Discard or wash protective clothes after exposition to dust of the product.

Environmental exposure controls: The amino acid L-lysine is a building block for protein(s) and a usual constituent of foods or feeds. Biodegradable. In case of release in large quantities, avoid releasing in sewers. When a large quantity of the product is released in a river or waste water treatment plant, the ecosystem or the functioning of the plant may be disturbed due to increased demand in oxygen required to degrade the product (increase of the biological oxygen demand – BOD – of water).

Methods for cleaning : Prevent spills from entering sewers and water courses. Avoid dust generation and ventilate the area. Wear mask.Collect the product and place it in bags or containers for later disposal and elimination as waste according to local legislation. After the material has been removed, rinse the spill site with water.

Handling and storage

Handling :

Follow good manufacturing practice and personal hygiene. Standard precautions for powdered products or products generating dust:

- Avoid dust dispersion during grinding or blending operations

- Provide mechanical exhaust or ventilation

- Clean and eliminate dust from equipments regularly

- Use anti-static equipment

- Avoid heat sources and sparks

Storage : In the bags in which the product has been delivered or in standard silos for bulk delivery. Keep in dry conditions. Keep away from ignition and heat sources.

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.

Stability and reactivity

Stability : Stable if stored in dry conditions in sealed or closed containers

Conditions to avoid : Avoid electric and electrostatic sparks

Materials recommended for equipment : Stainless steel (INOX) 316 L

Hazardous decomposition products : When heated to decomposition chlorine and nitrous fumes will be emitted

Disposal considerations

Disposal according to local / national legislation.
