Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on structural increments, no explosive properties are expected for Vat Indigo Potassium Salt. Tests with the evaporated nearly dry substance showed no flammability or self-ignition properties. The Differential Scanning Calorimetry showed an exothermic reaction with < 200 J/g released heat.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Based on structural increments, no explosive properties are expected for Vat Indigo Potassium Salt. Tests with the evaporated nearly dry substance showed no flammability or self-ignition properties. The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC; see 4.2 Melting point) showed an exothermic reaction with < 200 J/g released energy.

Tests with its oxidised environmentally stable form Indigo showed a released energy of 100 J/g in the DSC.

Based on structural increments and the above data, indigo and vat indigo potassium salt are not explosive.
