Description of key information

The substance is never handled in organic solvents. The test substance is synthesized and handled as an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (pH 13) only, under inert gas atmosphere. It is instable in an aqueous phase at neutral pH or as solid material on air and oxidises rapidly to Indigo, which is stable in inert organic solvents.

Additional information

The substance is never handled in organic solvents. The test substance is synthesized and handled as an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (pH 13) only, under inert gas atmosphere. It is instable in an aqueous phase at neutral pH or as solid material on air and oxidises rapidly to Indigo CAS 482-89-3.

Indigo is stable in inert organic solvents. The patent application gives a detailed description of the purification of Indigo upon heating the Indigo in hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons, ether, ketones, acid amides, nitriles, alcohols, esters or their mixtures at temperatures from 150-250 °C giving pure Indigo, that means that Indigo is stable at these temperatures in organic solvents.
