Biodegradation in soil

Description of key information

Studies are not available to assess the biodegradation of the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated, specifically in soil.  However, aerobic ready biodegradation studies in water (OECD 301B or equivalent tests) indicate that the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated is "readily biodegradable".  Because it is "readily biodegradable", biodegradation simulation studies in soil are not required in accord with ECHA-REACH Chapter R.7b, Endpoint Specific Guidance, (pp. 161-163)(ECHA 2008).   It is assumed that the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated will undergo rapid degradation in the environment, including soil and therefore is not expected to be persistent.

Since the test substance is "readily biodegradable", biodegradation simulation studies in soil are not required in accord with ECHA-REACH Chapter R.7b, Endpoint Specific Guidance, (pp. 161-163)(ECHA 2008). It is assumed that the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated will undergo rapid degradation in the environment, including the soil compartment.
