Flash point
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- flash point of flammable liquids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 2008
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: see 'Remark'
- Remarks:
- Reliability rating is 2 because the flash point was determined using the ASTM method D-93 and was not carried out under GLP. The method is used commonly in the US lubricant industry and is considered scientifically sound and acceptable. The ASTM method is similar or equivalent to the ISO 2719 Pensky-Martens closed cup method.

Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- equivalent or similar to guideline
- Guideline:
- ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
- Version / remarks:
- 2002
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- In a Pensky-Martens closed cup apparatus, a brass test cup of specified dimensions, filled to the inside mark with test sample and fitted with a cover of specified dimensions, is heated and the sample stirred at specified rates, by either of two defined procedures. An ignition source is directed into the test cup at regular intervals with simultaneous interruption of the stirring, until a flash is detected. The temperature at which application of an ignition source causes the vapors of the sample to ignite will be reported as the flash point (corrected to barometric pressure of 101.3 kPa or 760 mm Hg).
- GLP compliance:
- no
- Type of method:
- closed cup

Flash point as determined by ASTM D-93 test method
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The flash point of the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated was determined to be 153 degree C at 101.3 kPa using the ASTM D-93 method.
- Executive summary:
The flash point of the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated was determined to be 153 degree C at 101.3 kPa using the ASTM D-93 method (Pensky-Martens closed cup method).
