Although itself not readily biodegradable, the substance has been shown to rapidly hydrolyse to N-phenylmaleamic acid (CAS No. 555-59-9) which is itself predicted to be readily biodegradable (EPISUITE QSAR modelling), it is indicated that this subsequent biodegradadation proceeds via breakdown into maleic acid (CAS No. 108-31-6) and aniline (CAS No. 62-53-3) which are known to be biodegradable.

This substance has a biodegradable potential in soil. (Half-Live = 720 h)

The hydrolysis product (Maleanilic acid) has also a biodegradable potential in soil (Half-Life = 720 h)

QSAR result by Bcfwin (v2.15) as follows: Predicted fate in a wastewater treatment facility 74.5% degradation.

So, this substance is estimated as biodegradable under STP conditions.
