Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
08 Sep 2011
Reliability:

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP - Guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN Method N1, 2003: "Test method for readily combustible solids"
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Landesamt für Umwelt, Wasserwirtschaft und Gewerbeaufsicht, Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße 7, 55116 Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
2 min
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Findings of preliminary screening test

The test item was heated with the flame of a teclu burner. During heating, the colour of the test item became darker at the surface. No ignition occurred within two minutes and no smoke was visible. After cooling down, there was no change in appearance compared with the appearance before heating.

Since no ignition occurred throughout the course of the test, the test item was classified as not highly flammable, and no determination of burning rate was necessary.

Interpretation of results:
other: not flammable
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:

Description of key information

not flammable

no pyrophoricity

no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of the substance was determined according to EU Method A.10. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

A preliminary test (observations during melting point determination) excludes self-heating of the substance up to 400 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: The substance is not combustible and therefore not considered to be classified as a flammable solid or as pyrophoric.

The observation during melting point determination excludes self-heating of the substance up to 400 °C.
