- Endpoint:
- oxidising solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Endpoint:
- oxidising solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study

- Conclusions:
- The solid form of glycolic acid (glycolic acid >99%) is not oxidising.
- Executive summary:
The oxidising properties of the solid form of glycolic acid (glycolic acid >99%) was investigated using EC method A.17. The solid form of glycolic acid (glycolic acid >99%) is not oxidising.

Additional information
The oxidising properties of the solid form of glycolic acid (glycolic acid >99%) was investigated using EC method A.17. The solid form of glycolic acid (glycolic acid >99%) is not oxidising.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the study results, glycolic acid solid was not found to have oxidising properties.
The A17 test was relevant according to previous Directive 67/548/EEC "DSD" criteria; based on these, glycolic acid was considered NOT to be an oxidising solid and did not warrant any classification.
According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 "CLP", in the stepwise approach, glycolic acid fulfills the exemption criteria regarding the presence of oxygen atoms (no halogen) in the chemical structure, but bonded only to carbon and/or hydrogen. Therefore no further testing is required. Both >99% grade and 70% solution do NOT warrant any classification for oxidising properties.
