Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

MTDID 44430 is inherently biodegradable but does not fulfill specific criteria.

Additional information

MTDID 44430 did not meet pass criteria for ready biodegration nor specific criteria for inherent biodegradation. It is not toxic to biodegradation. In the inherent test, the test material could not be measured in inoculum blanks at the end of the test. The result was considered conservative, in that the substance may not have been entirely available to biodegradation throughout the test period. The expected degradation pathway is hydrolysis of the acrylate ester functionality followed by oxidation of the secondary alcohol to form a mixture of dodecyl ketones. This assumption leads to equivocal results. Acrylic acid is readily biodegradable. Undecan-2-one is not readily biodegradable (test conducted at four times the solubility limit), while nonan-2-one is easily biodegraded (test conducted at <2% of solubility limit). It is possible that the undecan-2-one did not pass its ready biodegradation test due to lack of solubility. The ultimate biological fate of MTDID 44430 is not entirely characterized.
