Additional information

-skin irritation: In a key skin irritation study (BASF.1963) two Vienna White rabbits were treated once with 1,6-dichlorohexane (concentration: 2 mL) via occlusive dermal exposure for 20 h and observed irritation effects for 8 days. A 24 h erythema score of 3 and an average edema score of 2 were deduced (average all animals). The skin reactions were not reversible within 8 d. Thus, the substance is classified as skin irritating.

-eye irritation: In a key eye irritation study (BASF.1963) two Vienna White rabbits were applied to conjunctival sac of eyelid with 1,6-dichlorohexane for 24 h and observed irritation effects for 8 days. An average overall irritation score of 0 were deduced (average all animals). Thus, the substance is not irritating to the eyes.

Justification for selection of skin irritation / corrosion endpoint:
Only one key study.

Justification for selection of eye irritation endpoint:
Only one key study.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results for skin irritation study, the substance should be classified and labelled as Category 2: irritating (H315: Causes skin irritation) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and as Xi; R38 (Irritating to skin) according to Directive 67/548/EEC.

The substance was classified and labelled as Category 2 according to OECD GHS.

Based on the results for eye irritation study, the substance was not classified and labelled according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and Directive 67/548/EEC.
