Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

An expert statement available for a daphnid immobilization test describes the impossibility of testing of 1,7 -octadiene in the aquatic environment due to technical reasons. As the test item is highly volatile a loss of several mg of the substance was observed in the experiment, even during weighing. Due to these properties, it was not possible to keep the concentrations of the test item within nominal ranges in the test beakers at test start (no concentration measurable at test start). Even the use of stabilisers and the use of closed vessel beakers showed no significant enhancement of the recoveries (2011-0104-DGO). According to the expert statement, the laboratory concluded that it is not possible to assess the toxicity of 1,7 -octadiene on daphnids. The statement further mentioned that the appearance of the test substance in water is very unlikely and the daphnids will not be exposed to nominal concentrations of the test item.

Nevertheless, to further evaluation of the short-term toxicological profile of the substance QSAR-calculations were performed. The resulting LC50/EC50-values of the QSAR-calculations using different models were summarized in the following table:

The calculated LC50/EC50-values are within the range of 0.91 – 2.15 mg/L for daphnids, taking into account a test duration of 48 h.
