Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Justification for type of information:
The Pentyl salicylate is found in a high proportion in the Reaction mass of 2-methylbutyl salicylate and pentyl salicylate registered by Givaudan, hence the structural similarities are elevated.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Specific details on test material used for the study:
-Commercial name: Amyl Salicylate
-Chemical nature: Mixture of Pentyl 2-hydroxybenzoate and 3-Methylbutyl 2-hydroxybenzoate
-Givaudan Code No: 8810001
- Physical state: Liquid
- Analytical purity: 99.73% (sum of two isomers)
- Lot/batch No.: VE00100713
- Expiration date: September 12, 2012
Water solubility:
5.5 mg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
7
Details on results:
The results in Table 1 and curved in Appendix 1 show that there is no significant change of the measured concentrations after 48h, 72h and 96h. Thus it can be concluded that equilibrium is reached. Thus the results obtained after 48h, 72h and 96h were averaged to give the water solubility of Amyl Salicylate.

The results of the main test are shown in Table 1 and illustrated by the chart in Appendix 1.
