Conclusion on classification

1-Naphthol has a harmonized classification (Index no. 604-029 -00 -5). 1-Naphthol does not have a harmonized classificication for environment (neither acute nor chronic).

Three acute endpoints for three different trophic levels are available. The lowest LC50 is found for fish and is 0.33 mg/L.

Two chronic endpoints are available.

One chronic endpoint for algae is available. The ErC10 > 2.18 mg/L.

1-Naphthol tested in a 21-day Daphnia magna study gave a NOEC 0.25 mg/L (reproduction rate).

The substance is readily biodegradability and has a low log Kow of 2.84.

Acute endpoint for fish is 0.33 mg/L, therefore under Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 (2nd ATP to CLP) 1-Naphthol should be classified Category Acute 1, M-factor = 1.

The substance is readily biodegradable and the chronic NOEC for Daphnia magna is 0.25 mg/L. 1-Naphthol should be classified Category Chronic 3.
