Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted based on the natural abundance of carbon in soil and the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I which does not indicate a need to investigate further the effect on terrestrial organisms.

Additional information

Only limited data are available on tests that have been carried out with carbon black on terrestrial organisms. Earthworm tests have been reported for filtered extractions of tire dust. These tests, on filtrate from 100g of material, shaken for 24 hours in one litre of water, showed no toxicity. This supports the expected low toxicity of carbon black to terrestrial organisms.
