Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012-11-29
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The melting point is defined as the temperature at which phase transition from solid to liquid state at normal atmospheric pressure takes place.
Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC):
Samples of the test substances and of a reference material are subjected to the same controlled temperature programme. The difference in energy input necessary to maintain identical temperatures between the substance and the reference material is recorded. When the sample undergoes a phase transition (melting point), the corresponding change of enthalpy gives a departure from the base line of the heat flow record.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Differential scanning calorimetry

Conclusions:
The melting point of methylphosphonic acid was determined to be 105 °C.
Executive summary:

Melting point of the methylphosphonic acid was determined in a study conducted according OECD Guideline 102. Differential Scanning Calorimetry was used for this purpose. Based on the findings of the study, the melting point of the substance was determined to be 105°C.

Description of key information

The melting point of methyl phosphonic acid was determined to be 105 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
105 °C

Additional information

The melting point was determined using the "Differential scanning calorimetry" method according to OECD 102. The result of the study was unambiguous, giving a melting point of 105 °C.
