Preliminary Visual Estimation of the Water Solubility

The preliminary visual experiments showed that the water solubility of the test item is > 200 g/l and < 1000 g/l. Therefore the water solubility had to be determined by the “flask method”. Due to the high water solubility it was tested which amount of the test substance could be stirred in a defined volume of water.

Due to this stirring experiment the main test could be performed with 3.5 g in 8 ml water (438 g/l). This solution was stirred at 20 °C for 22 hour. After this time a dark colored pasty solution was observed. No precipitate was observed. The stirring test showed that 438 g/l test item can be used for flask method.

Executive summary:

Water solubility of FAT 40045/Z TE was assessed according to the flask method as specified in OECD Guideline 105. In the experiment, three flasks were prepared with 8 ml distilled water and about 3.5 g of the test item. These were stirred for different times at 30 °C (experiment C for 72 h, experiment B for 48 h, experiment A for 24 h) in tightly closed flasks. After 24 h equilibration at 20 °C a dark colored pasty solution was observed.

Based on the findings of the study, the water solubility (cs) of the test item at a temperature of 20 °C was determined to be 376 g/l.
