Additional information

The aim of this study was to determine the auto-ignition temperature of the test material Azuril (Reaction mass of 3 -(4 -methyl-3 -pentenyl)cyclohex-3 -ene-1 -carbonitrile and 4 -(4 -methyl-3 -pentenyl)cyclohex-3 -ene-1 -carbonitrile). The study was performed according to the EU Method A.15.

Once the flask temperature had reached the desired temperature, the temperature controller was adjusted to maintain the initial temperature (226 °C) within the designated limits and the system was allowed to equilibriate. Approximately 0.1 mL of the test substance was injected into the flask and a timer was started. If ignition was not observed in 10 minutes, the sample was considered non-flammable at the gas temperature and at the concentration applied in the flask. The flask was then completely purged with the hot-air gun and the timer and recorder were reset. The test was repeated at a higher temperature.

If positive ignition occured, the timer was stopped and time interval between sample insertion and ignition was recorded as the ignition delay time. The procedure was then repeated using a large sample. If ignition occured at a lower temperature with the increased sample size, then the process was repeated again using large samples, until the minimum auto-ignition temperature was obtained.

The measured auto-ignition temperature of the test material Azuril (Reaction mass of 3-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)cyclohex-3-ene-1-carbonitrile and 4-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)cyclohex-3-ene-1-carbonitrile) was determined to be 346°C at an atmospheric pressure range of 97.5-97.7 kPa.
