Skin irritation

The study reported in the Quaker Oat bulletin, refers to skin irritation results obtained after 24h application of the undiluted substance. The substance was found to be severly irritant. However, the author concludes that upon dermal contact with small amounts of 2 -methylfuran, prompt and complete removal should not result in more than mild skin irritation.

Although normally study results after 4h application should be used to conclude on the classification, the precautionary principle was applied and the substance is classified as skin irritant, cat. 2 according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP).

Eye irritation

The author also states that prompt and complete removal of 2 -methylfuran following occular contact should not result in more than very slicht, transient eye irritation.

Although the available information is limited, the test substance is precautionally classified as eye irritation cat. 2 according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP).
