Description of key information

Triallyl cyanurate has in the neutral and acid pH range (pH=5 to 7) only low potential for hydrolytical degradation. Only in the alkaline pH region, a limited tendency for hydrolysis could be detected. Thereby a successive ether cleavage of the side chains could be observed with cyanuric acid as end product.

The potential of triallyl cyanurate for hydrolysis was tested according to OECD Guideline 111 (2004) and in compliance with GLP. Hydrolysis depends significantly on pH. At pH 4 and 7, the substance did not degrade in a preliminary study. The Hydrolysis rate constant K25 °C calculated using the Arrhenius equation was 0.000247 h-1 at pH 9.

Further studies demonstrate that hydrolysis occurred marginally indicated by recovery rates exceeding 50 % at pH up to 10.4. Degradation increased significantly at pH 12 and only 8.7 % of the initial concentration was measured after 10.3 h.

The hydrolysis of triallyl cyanurate in water depending on pH was additionally calculated for a 24 h test period. The quantitative measurement of TAC in aqueous solution indicates no hydrolysis at pH 8.8, 7.1 or 1.2. TAC is stable and no metabolites occur. It can be concluded that hydrolysis of TAC is unimportant for the aquatic fate of this compound at the normal pH range of natural water.
