Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 72h-ErC50 of phosphoryl trichloride exposed to Desmodesmus subspicatus in buffered medium was determined to be >100 mg/L with buffered test medium and 32.13 mg/L with non-buffered medium.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

A 72 hour algal study (conducted according to EU Method C.3 (Algal Inhibition test)) was conducted, exposing phosphoryl trichloride to Desmodesmus subspicatus. The results of the study are based on nominal exposure concentrations and on test media with and without pH adjustment. Under pH adjusted conditions no inhibition of algal growth was observed at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. Without pH adjustment the 72 hour ErC50 was 32.12 mg/L with 95% confidence limits of 31.87 to 32.36 mg/L and the overall NOEC was 12.5 mg/L. Analytical monitoring of the achieved test substance concentrations was not possible due to the rapid degradation in aqueous environments.
