Description of key information

The ready biodegradation of 6-ethyl-2 -toluidine was investigated with a test item concentration of 20 mg/l related to DOC serving as the sole source of organic carbon and using activated sludge of domestic origin. After 28 days 6 % of the test item were degraded (Bayer AG, 1989).
Based on these test results 6-ethyl-2-toluidine has to be classified as not readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed
