The preliminary octanol-water partition coefficient of the main component of the test substance (oligomer, n=2) was estimated to be 9.4 using an Atom/Fragment Contribution Method, software KOWWIN® Version v1.66 (Syracuse Research Corporation, New York, USA). According to the guideline the shake flask method is applicable for log Pow values within the range of -2 to 4, the HPLC method for log Pow values within the range of 0 to 6. Therefore no experimental method can be used for the main test. Only an experimental verification based on the HPLC method for the calculated log Pow was performed, resulting in an estimated log Pow for the main component (dimer) of the test item of approximately 9.2. This is in good agreement with the log Pow of 9.4 calculated using the software KOWWIN®. Due to the structure of the other oligomers the log Pow of these components is higher.
