Description of key information

The substance has a low melting point and shows a flashpoint and explosive limits similar to liquids.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

the upper and lower explosive limits of Norbornene were determined according to DoIN 51649, part 1 of Dec 1986 or prEN 1839 respectively. Due to the low melting point of the test substance the test was performed at an temperature of 75°C. The upper explosive limit was determined at 2.5% (w/w) corresponding to 0.77 % (v/v). The upper explosive limit was determined at 18.4% (w/w) corresponding to 6.5% (v/v).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance has a low melting point and shows a flashpoint and explosive limits similar to liquids. With respect to reactivity with water and pyrophoric properties, Norbornene does not show reactivity. Hence it is not classified under these criteria.
