According to column 2 of AnnexVII of REAcH this end point was considered as waiver, since the Methyltrioctylammonium chloride is a liquid and is expected to be marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.

Vapour pressure:

The estimated vapour pressure of the test substance Methyltrioctylammonium chloride at 25 deg C was 2.5E-010 Pa.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of test chemical Methyltrioctyl ammonium chloride (CAS no. 5137 -55 -3)was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared.

The Log Pow value was determined to be 4.50 dimensionless at 25°C.

Water solubility:

The water solubility for the test item Methyltrioctylammonium chloride was found to be 21.0533 mg/L at 25°C.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Methyltrioctylammonium chloride is used as a phase transfer catalyst. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The mean flash point of Methyltrioctylammonium chloride(CAS No. 5137-55-3) was 131.3°C at 979.2 hPa.

Autoflammability:

Methyltrioctylammonium chloride did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Methyltrioctylammonium chloride is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Methyltrioctylammonium chloride does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Methyltrioctylammonium chloride is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Methyltrioctylammonium chloride was considered non-flammable.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidising properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

pH:

The pH of 1% w/v emulsion of the test item Methyltrioctylammonium chloride (CAS No. 5137-55-3) was 3.34 at 24.5 °C.

Viscosity:

Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of Methyltrioctylammonium chloride( CAS No. 5137-55-3)at 30°C and 50°C is 230.9450 mm²/sec and 179.0750 mm²/s, respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of Methyltrioctylammonium chloride (CAS No. 5137-55-3) at 30°C and 50°C was 208.2431mPa.S and 161.4719 mPa.S, respectively.
