Ecotoxicological information

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Administrative data

Endpoint:
long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
21 days
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Justification for type of information:
Surrogate substance used. This is the starting amine that appears to be more hazardous to Daphnia than 'Reaction products of C11-14 tert-alkylamine and formaldehyde' and can therefore be used for assessment.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
A dose-related effect was observed with a NOEC establised at ca 0.1 mg/l.
When compared with the short term test, the effect levels are similar (in fact, short term effect recording an EC50 of 0.83 mg/lg based on analysis) implying that the toxic effects are not accumulative.
In view of the similarities in the chemisty between these substances and the siilarity in properties and actue effects, it can be assumed that Reaction products of C11-14 tert-alkylamine and formaldehyde will have a NOAEC to Daphnia in the range of 0.1 - 1 mg/l for purposes of classification
