Description of key information

In accordance to Annex X Column 2, long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the results of the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects of the substance and/or relevant degradation products on sediment organisms.
Because of low potential for adsorption (i.e. they have low octanol water partition coefficients: log Kow ≤ 3 and are water soluble), no exposure of the sediment is expected for Tartaric acid and its salts.
Tartaric acid and its salts are assessed as (i) ready biodegradable, (ii) non-bioaccumulable (due to their high polarity, as shown by Log Kow values close to 0) and (iii) non-toxic to the environment or human health.

The registrant is not proposing to present data for this endpoint.
